Airpods and Monologue on iOS

I tried the Notes feature on iOS. I had my Airpods in and was expecting that Monologue would use the Airpod Microphone. Is there a way to chose thr microphone? monologue was recording from the iphone microphone in my pocket and always showed failed transcription. it took me a while to realize this
