Recording animation delayed

I frequently find that after pressing my shortcut to start recording (double tap right option key), the recorder UI does not reflect what is being detected with the microphone. So whilst the recording works, it seems like it won’t. Typically after a few seconds it then starts to show the visual that is synced to the audio signal.
