System Audio Distortion When Using Microsoft Teams

First, thanks for building Monologue! It’s a great application that I use every day. The new Notes feature seems like it will be very helpful for transcribing meetings at work. Unfortunately, there’s recording quality issues when I try to record Microsoft Teams meeetings.

When I start a Note recording before or during a Teams call and I’m using my AirPods Pro, the recorded system audio is distorted and barely intelligble. My voice (the input from my mic) sounds correct; it’s the audio coming from Teams that sounds distorted.(Sample recording:

To be clear, I don’t hear any audio issues during the Teams call, it’s only the recording in Monologue that’s distorted.

This happens, as far as I’ve seen, only with Teams. Other audio sources (FaceTime call, YouTube video, etc.) don’t have this issue; I can record a Note with my AirPods in and both my voice and the system audio sound good.

For one test, I started the Note recording, then did a short Teams call and then played a YouTube video. All in the same Note. In that case, both the Teams audio and the YouTube audio were distorted.

Recording Teams audio works fine if I remove my AirPods. I also tried switching the microphone in Teams to my webcam mic and keeping my AirPods as the speaker, but the audio was still distorted.

I’ve tried different mic settings in Monologue, but haven’t found a configuration that fixes it. I’ve also tried adjusting Teams settings like disabling noise suppression but didn’t find a solution.

I realize this is a pretty specific scenario (Teams + AirPods); if it doesn’t seem realistic to diagnose, no worries. I’m hoping there’s a fix or workaround, but I know bugs like this can be difficult to reproduce and fix. And it might just be an issue with my system.
